English Language Classes

English Language groups will begin in person and online again in September! If you are a returning student, please contact your teacher directly. If you are a new student, please see the information below or contact our office for more information.

 

LINC (Language Instruction for New Canadians) Classes at Cumberland College
​​Learn to speak, read, write, and understand English. Adult learners with Canadian Language Benchmark levels of 1-8 can join to advance their skills. These classes are free of charge and new students are welcome anytime. LINC classes for 2021-2022 are currently held in Melfort.

Conversation Circles​
​​​
Conversation Circles are free and available to join at any time. Conversation Circles provide learners with many opportunities to practice English speaking and listening skills and to learn about Canadian culture. Learn English while meeting other newcomers and making new friendships. Conversation Circles for 2021-2022 are currently held in Tisdale and Hudson Bay.

English Tutor

If you live in a community where there are no classes being held, or you are unable to attend the classes in your community, you may qualify for English instruction from a Tutor. Contact the office for more information about this program and if you qualify.

Study English Online
Improve your language skills by studying English online with the help of a TESL certified instructor via LINC Home Study or English Online. To be referred to this program, you must be assessed by Lynda McPhee. Please e-mail or call for an appointment.

Learners will need:

  • 5-7 hours per week for independent study

  • to participate in a weekly telephone call with the instructor

  • a computer with high-speed internet access or a CD player
